How many times have you sat down to have a "conversation" with a Liberal over a beer, perhaps to discuss a seemingly benign topic like......life in general? If you've been in this "no cause for alarm" situation....as I know you have, how long does it take before your counterpart begins the head-spin, penetrating glare stare followed by an incoherrant rant? About five minutes since, in my experience, all topics of conversation lead to this unpleasant path.
How's work? see...... Your friend may not have a job. Or....our company laid off a bunch of workers. see.... Maybe CNN airs the ad of Obama with the commemorative coin and you wince. You get the point. To a liberal or a conservative, all paths lead to the Liberal blaming George Bush for the state of our economy. It doesn't help that our Commander in Chief declares that he "inherited this mess" (victim...why did you run then?) every five minutes and he will repeat this mantra on Leno tonight (embarassing starlet). We have all heard the rant, "George Bush spent trillions of dollars getting us into this war and now our country is in debt - What about that? I didn't hear anyone complaining about Bush when he was wasting our money getting us into war!!" The spit is flying!!! There you have it folks - therein lies the root of the problem. Blind rage.
It's irrational from the start. You are now dealing with a mental patient and you would really like to pry your beer out of their hands and go home. It's a no-win. Not wanting to step in the same quagmire because you have been here before and you can't help but wonder what the hell you see in this person. Who are they? Jesus. It's an ugly glimpse into their character because you know it isn't simply a matter of being a Bush hater but rather someone who has succombed to mass media brainwashing that began in grade-school or worse infancy. Is it rooted in their DNA? Rather than argue because that never ends well, you decide to take a new approach and agree. Brilliant!
By the way, the Liberal didn't cause you to come to this conclusion. You were so beaten and battered by Obama winning the Presidency (because you were quite convinced that he might be a Socialist) that you've declared yourself a Constitutionalist...... Libertarian....whatever. It feels good because you are giving yourself a clean slate that takes you all the way back to George and the gang. "Hey.....I'm a "blah blah". I will not defend Bush....he spent a ton of money getting us into a war that I myself did not agree with." That's true. The Liberal doesn't know what to do. What? They look at you like, "Comrade...you too hate George Bush!" Uhhhh......No. Now, they're all lubed up for ya (hey Sarah!). Beam them with facts slowly....agree intermittently just for kicks. Drink more. George Bush got the deficit up to about 500 billion....he had to fight the war on terror after 911. Entitlement programs too racked up the debt....drugs for seniors. Obama has, more than doubled the debt in a few weeks since being in office and it's only going to get worse. Swig swig...."But hey, he's a great speaker," pretending to marvel.
The last thing you want to do is complain about your taxes with the Liberal (No I didn't read Anne Coulter's book but I know from experience) because you will get zero sympathy. Paying a 35% tax rate that covers 70 % of all Federal Income Taxes isn't enough. They want more and you know this Liberal thinks anyone in that tax bracket is rich, synonomous with billionaire bankers who deserve to pay! That is a direct result of brainwashing.
They (the Liberal) faired well during the Clinton years because they rode the Dot-com bubble. Their experience is that of a cave-man - Democrat Good. Republican Bad. They want to blame Bush for their job failure and let Obama off the hook for turning a big-Government caused crisis into a catastrophe in the making. They are blind to the possibility - Bush rage is making them blind. They don't want to read history and learn about the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 or Securitization in the 90's or the Clinton Administration wanting to enforce the Community Reinvestment Act as referenced in a 1999 New York Times article that I believe contributed to this mess.
Now you are the mental patient because you don't get how even a Liberal brainwashed since birth doesn't see what you see. Do they see it as "normal" to implement unilateral cap and trade, a regressive tax measure that will cost mega-trillions by 2050 if this gets passed? Do they think it's going to be great to have secret ballots for Union members? Do they know that will contribute to unemployment numbers going way up? The list is too long to mention all the policies lined up to destroy the free-market system. It's mind-boggling and it's inspiring Tea Parties from the East coast to the West coast.
If the Liberals' disdain for George Bush is blinding them to all the facts then go ahead and agree. Blame Bush too by offering up a toast if you must. What do you have to lose? It's a small point to concede. Besides, if the Liberal lets down their guard then you will have a greater chance of letting facts permeate that brainwashed noodle of theirs. Good luck and drink plenty of beer. Either way, in the end, broken campaign promises by way of higher unemployment, higher taxes and diminished opportunity will be our only hype-reversal in getting the Liberal to see the writing on the wall. Cheers!
